How much does a Honda Civic cost?

The short answer

A 2026 Honda Civic sedan starts at $24,695 for the LX, including the $1,150 destination charge, and tops out at $32,395 for the Sport Touring Hybrid. Hatchbacks run about $1,200 more than comparable sedans. After taxes, title, and typical fees, a realistic out-the-door range is roughly $26,000 to $35,000 depending on trim and state, before any dealer discount or markup.

Here is the full lineup as Honda prices it today. These figures include the $1,150 destination charge, the freight fee every buyer pays regardless of dealer.

Figures verified 2026-07-24. Civic Si and Type R are priced separately. Hatchback versions of the Sport trims run roughly $1,200 more.

The hatchback lineup starts at $27,895 for the Sport and reaches $33,595 for the Sport Touring Hybrid. There’s no LX hatchback, so the cheapest way into a Civic is the LX sedan.

MSRP is not what you’ll actually pay

The table above is the sticker. Your real cost is the out-the-door (OTD) price: sale price plus destination, dealer documentation fee, state and local taxes, and title and registration. Depending on your state’s tax rate, expect the OTD total to land roughly 6 to 10% above the sale price. That’s why the honest shopping range for a 2026 Civic is about $26,000 on a bare LX to $35,000 on a loaded hybrid, and why FTC guidance says to get the itemized OTD figure in writing before you negotiate anything else.

A few terms worth separating, because dealers sometimes blur them:

  • MSRP, Honda’s suggested sticker, including destination in the figures above.
  • Dealer asking price, what the dealer lists; can sit above MSRP (market adjustment) or below it.
  • Transaction price, what buyers actually pay. On high-demand hybrids this has often sat at or near sticker; on gas trims there’s usually more room.
  • Out-the-door, everything, including government charges. The only number that matters for comparing offers.

What pushes the price up

Hybrid demand is the big one, the Sport Hybrid is the volume pick, and hot sellers get discounted less. Beyond that: dealer add-ons (accessory packages, protection products, you can decline what you didn’t order), market adjustments in tight inventory months, and the hatchback body style. The Si and Type R carry their own premiums and, for the Type R especially, frequent markups.

What pulls the price down

Shopping the gas LX and Sport, where inventory usually sits longer. End-of-model-year timing, when next year’s cars start arriving. Getting OTD quotes from several dealers by email and letting them compete, the sale price is the negotiable layer, and an easy in-writing comparison is your best leverage. Finally, Honda periodically runs finance offers through Honda Financial Services; a below-market APR can be worth more than a modest discount.

What a Civic costs per month

Illustration only, your rate depends on credit, lender, and term. Take the $29,395 Sport Hybrid sedan, put $3,000 down, and finance $26,395 at 6.39% APR (the Q1 2026 average new-car rate per Experian) for 60 months: about $515 a month, before taxes and fees are rolled in. The same structure on a $24,695 LX runs about $424 a month. Stretching to 72 months drops the payment but raises total interest, judge the total cost, not just the monthly.

Is the Civic worth its price?

Mostly, yes, the Civic holds value well and its running costs are low, which is part of why it’s priced the way it is. You also get Honda’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic and 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain warranties. But it isn’t the right buy for everyone: the 150-hp base engine is adequate rather than quick; if you need real family rear-seat space, a used Accord often costs the same as a new Civic; and if your budget sits under about $24,000, a lightly used Civic is smarter than stretching a loan for a new one.

Next steps

Decide gas vs. hybrid first, at an EPA-rated 50/47 mpg versus 32/41 for the LX, the hybrid pays back its premium fastest for high-mileage drivers. Then email three dealers for itemized OTD quotes on the exact trim, compare totals, and check current Honda Financial Services offers before accepting dealer-arranged financing.
